Government publications contain much interesting information about New Zealand past and present.
This is particularly relevant to Rotorua, as it was under the control of the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts from August 1907 to 1923.
Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives or AJHRs are government reports that are published each year and show the work and activities of the government in that year. AJHRs from 1854 to 1950 have been digitised - see AtoJs Online.
The New Zealand Gazette is the official newspaper of the Government of New Zealand. It includes business proceedings, bankruptcies, land transfer notices, departmental and parliamentary notices, trade and professional lists and is useful for both historical and family history research. The New Zealand Gazette can be accessed on our specialised database computer in the Heritage & Research area.
In the Heritage & Research area of the library you can consult selected Maori Land Court Minute Books, Rotorua Lakes Council reports, plans and by-laws, Bay of Plenty Regional Council reports and Waikato Regional Council reports.
Ask the friendly staff at the Heritage & Research Desk if you would like any help using government publications.
