Government Publications
Government publications contain much interesting information about New Zealand in the past.
This is particularly relevant to Rotorua as it was under the control of the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts from August 1907 to 1923.
Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives or AJHRs are government related reports that are published each year and show the work and activities of the government in that year. We have a selection of printed volumes from the early 1900s in the Don Stafford Room.
The complete set is currently being digitized see AtoJs Online. Recent AJHRs from 2002 can be viewed on the NZ Parliament website.
The New Zealand Gazette is the official newspaper of the Government of New Zealand. It includes business proceedings, bankruptcies, land transfer notices, departmental and parliamentary notices, trade and professional lists and is useful for both historical and family history research.
Acts or Statutes, Statutory Regulations, Bills, Rotorua District Council reports, plans and by-laws.
Rotorua District Council comes under both the Bay of Plenty Regional Council and the Waikato Regional Council. The Library has a selection of their reports relevant to the District and more can be found on their websites (see Quick Links). They are particularly useful for environmental topics.
