A booklet called 'The Codex' contains everything you need to know about the programme. If you are unable to visit the library please e-mail us
here to request a copy by post. As in previous summer reading programmes
being read to, listening to talking books as well as independent reading all count.
This year there are even more ways to become involved in the programme and to win extra prizes.
One of the optional challenges this year and to go in the draw to win a $50 book voucher is to solve The Prophecy mystery. The Prophecy has seven lines and your challenge is to find two missing words within each line. However, it gets harder because you don't get to see the lines just the clues to solve the missing words. The first two clues are posted here and can also be found in The Codex.
Clue 1:
Septimus Heap is the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ son of Silas Heap in the book 'Magyk' by Angie Sage.
Clue 2:
Everybody has one of these,
It is theirs to keep forever.
It has a first, sometimes a middle, but always a last,
But famous people may just need the first,
Like Madonna, TinTin or Elvis.
Find the answer to the riddle and fill in the letters to finish the word: un_ _ _ _ ed.
Every week we will release clues for the next line in the prophecy - but only to those who have correctly solved the previous clues and registered them with us. Get a copy of The Codex today for all the details of this beguiling mystery. Can you decipher The Prophecy?
.
We hope you enjoy the challenges, puzzles and conundrums of this year's programme and hope you all read, read, read, then read some more.
The Portal Summer Reading Programme is generously sponsored by Friends of the Library and is open to Rotorua resident and visiting children aged 0 to 12 years. Please note to participate children must be residing or staying in Rotorua during the holiday period.
