New members are needed to join the Friends of the Library, a group of volunteers who have been promoting and supporting the Rotorua Library for almost 26 years.
This small and passionate group often lend a hand at the library but spend most of the time raising funds for various library activities such as holiday programmes, guest speakers and new technology.
The group punch well above their weight and have made an immensely positive impact on library services in Rotorua.
The group are inviting any interested book lovers to join their team to help with their busy schedule of activities – especially the hugely popular Kuirau Park Book Sale.
Friends of the Library President, Onno van Raalte says that the Book Sale is a social gathering for the group and everyone enjoys their time together.
"Each member within the group has their own unique skills and they have gradually found their place amongst the team in a way that utilises their strengths.
"One person in particular will have the vital role of listening to all the stories of the fortnight while whipping up something for morning tea", says Onno.
Assistance at the Book Sale is needed from 8.30am to 1.30pm on the on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.
Volunteers help with a range of tasks including setting up tables, boxes of books and the awning, refreshing the books throughout the morning and attending the sales desk.
While fundraising is a major part of the group's purpose, the Friends are also a social bunch and their current members love being part of the team at the market.
If you are interested in joining the Friends or want to know more about the group talk with library staff or contact Onno van Raalte on 07 349 3306.
