The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

Book Review

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

I love Kristin Hannah and this latest didn’t disappoint.

1974, and Cora Allbright along with Vietnam vet husband, Ernt and 13 year old daughter, Leni head to the wilds of Alaska, ready for another new start.

Totally unprepared for the Alaskan life, the family is welcomed by the small community, but as the darkness of winter descends, so do the fall-outs of Ernt’s time in Vietnam. And as Leni matures to a young woman, another love story unfolds, influenced in part by the wild yet beautiful environment in which they live.

I really enjoyed this, wondering what was going to happen to the characters when I had to put it down.

I gained admiration, especially for the women who make a life in this wild, yet beautiful place where as Leni says “You either belong here, wild and untamed yourself, or you don’t”. She did.
