The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart by Holly Ringland

This debut novel is akin to putting your face in a bouquet of spring flowers and being immersed in a heady floral fragrance. Beautifully crafted, this novel takes the reader on a journey through the wildflowers of Australia and the beautiful art of Floriography, the language of flowers.

Alice Hart is a young sensitive girl who lives a secluded life with her parents, and best friend Toby. Her mother teaches her about the language of flowers, and that combined with her love of books, cocoons Alice from the fluctuating moods of her father.

All changes however, on the day a tragic fire claims the lives of both parents and Alice goes to live with her previously unknown Grandmother at her flower farm. Here her life alters and the changes will affect the rest of her life in many ways. A traumatic event again turns Alice’s world upside down and the story then moves into the centre of Australia.

A fabulous book -  well worth indulging in.
