The Violinist of Venice

Book Review

The Violinist of Venice by Alyssa Palombo

The debut novel by this young author is a fascinating look into the world of Venice in the early 18th century.

Based on the life of Vivaldi, the author has cleverly woven a magical story of life, love and loss. The characters are strong and brought to life with ease and the music of the violin is with you throughout the novel.

One of the central roles is that of Adriana. A beautiful but wilful young lady, who falls in love with the charismatic Antonio Vivaldi also known as Il Prete Rosso (the red priest). Many boundaries are crossed as the story evolves into a solid, enchanting novel that I found hard to put down.

I look forward to reading her new novel about Botticelli - The Most Beautiful Woman in Florence.
