School Class Membership

Teachers at a schools may be eligible for a class card that allows you to borrow books for your class.

If you are interested please read the conditions of membership then fill in the Membership Form and return it to Rotorua Library to apply.


Class Visits

Ideal for year 1-13

Venue: Rotorua Library, Te Aka Mauri

Duration: 1-2 hour

A class visit may be just the ticket to find out how you can make the most of your library.

A class visit includes a tour of the library collections and can be customised to suit your group's specific interest.

Find out how many books there are in the library, how many people visit the library every day and what librarians do (if they don't get to read books all day).

Learn how to use the catalogue and the online databases to find books and information.


Digital Literacy Skills and Research Skills Programme

Ideal for years 6-10

Venue: At your school

Duration: 1 hour, per session

The purpose of this program is to help create digital citizens through increasing digital literacy skills.

The programme aims to help develop digital literacy skills while also improving student’s research, literacy and library skills.

The programme includes the following workshops:

  1. Developing research questions and identifying key words.
  2. Using online tools – Deciding what is appropriate
  3. Copyright – What is it?
  4. Visiting the library – Library orientation


Referencing to avoid plagiarism

Ideal for years 9-13

Venue: At your school

Duration: 1 hour, per session

Students are guided through how to correctly reference sources of information. They are taught about referencing materials from books to websites using APA referencing style. They are taught how to format in-text citations and also taught how to correctly format reference lists. These sessions have been developed to be delivered in classroom or school library and take one school period.

The APA reference session can also be expanded to three sessions to assist students to in their research. These sessions include:

  1. Introduction to online databases and finding the best online resources
  2. Introduction to APA referencing
  3. Hands on research help and guidance
